    ■ over: 「超える」イメージ

    前置詞overは「超える」イメージで捉えておくと良いでしょう。野球のホームランはフェンスの上を超えているので「フェンスオーバー」と言うことがあります。また, 日本語ではリアクションが過剰なことを「オーバーリアクション」などと言うことがありますが, これはリアクションが通常の範疇を「超えている」から「オーバーリアクション」と言うのだと言えます。このように, 前置詞は日本語の一部になっているような場合があるので, そのような日本語から前置詞のイメージを掴めることもあります。

    ■ under ~: 〜の下に

    前置詞underは「下」のイメージです。例えば, 「アンダーグラウンド」は文字通り「地面の下」であり, 地下を表します。

    ■ between A and B: AとBの間/ among: 3つ以上のものの間(内側)

    betweenとamongの違いですが, betweenは2つのものや人の間(間隔)のイメージで, amongは3つ以上のものや人の間(内側)と捉えておくとよいでしょう。

    ■ along A: Aに沿って

    alongで言えば, sing alongというと「一緒に歌う」という意味になります。

    ■ across: 「横切る」イメージ

    acrossに関しては, came acrossで「出会う, 出くわす」という意味になります。
